What is a law fair and why should I attend one?
A law fair is a career fair but instead of multiple companies from a range of industries exhibiting, it’s just law firms or legal providers.
The benefits of attending a law fair are:
It’s an efficient way to meet a range of law firms. Within a few hours, you could have met a number of representatives from a range of firms.
You can confirm what type of law you’re interested in. There will usually be a range of firms at these events: City, national, regional, local. There will also be firms who do corporate work then others that specialise in private client or criminal.
You get to meet law firm recruiters. This is a valuable opportunity to make a positive first impression. If your impression is really positive, that recruiter may note down your name and/or remember you so when it comes to submitting your application, the chance of you making it through to the next round could increase.
You can ask firms questions. This can help you decide whether you want to apply to their firm (saving you time if it turns out the firm isn’t for you). You could also obtain high level information which will make your application stand out from the crowd.
You get to network with other candidates. This can be helpful when it comes to application season - you could end up checking each others application forms for errors or researching firms together.
