What key skills do I need to display on my training contract/vacation scheme applications?

Here is a list of skills you could display:

  • written communication/verbal communication

  • organisation

  • attention to detail

  • ability to work in a team/collaborative/team working

  • commercial awareness/entrepreneurial spirit

  • analytical

  • research

  • leadership

  • ability to hold a position of responsibility

  • ability to manage competing deadlines/workload

  • time management

  • relationship building

  • ability to work under pressure

  • determination and drive

  • problem solving

You’ll notice I’ve put in bold the five skills. These are skills which I’ve heard mentioned the most at law firm events.

Many firms will, however, list certain skills they want to see in your application. You should ensure you have those skills displayed within the work experience and competency section of the application form.
